Jacob Rees-Mogg Opposes Green Belt Development in Hanham

In a strong statement published in the most recent edition of the Somerset and Hanham STAR, Jacob Rees-Mogg has voiced his opposition to the proposed housing development at The Batch in Hanham. Standing firm against the plans put forward by Redrow Homes and Ashfield Land, Rees-Mogg emphasised the need to protect the Green Belt and prioritise the interests of local residents.

"Attempts to vandalise the green belt must be prevented and the views and interests of local residents given precedence" Rees-Mogg asserted. His statement reflects the growing concern among community members and conservationists who are striving to protect the cherished landscapes and natural habitats in Hanham.

The proposal to build 140 houses on Green Belt land at The Batch has been met with significant resistance, with a combined total of 1.490 objections at the time of writing. This land, adjacent to the biodiverse ancient woodland of Hencliff Wood, serves as a crucial green lung for the area, supporting a variety of wildlife and offering a peaceful retreat for local residents.

During his visit to The Batch at Castle Farm Road in Hanham Abbots, Rees-Mogg was photographed surveying the picturesque yet threatened area. His presence and vocal opposition bolster the efforts of the Hanham District Green Belt Conservation Society and other local groups dedicated to preserving the integrity of the Green Belt.

Hanham District Green Belt Conservation Society remains committed to safeguarding this vital natural resource. We urge residents to join us in our efforts to ensure that development plans respect the environmental and community value of our Green Belt areas. Your support is crucial in our ongoing campaign to protect the unique and irreplaceable landscapes that define our community.
