Hanham District Green Belt Conservation Society welcomes the decision of refusal by South Gloucestershire Council, in relation to the speculative application to develop Land South Of Hencliffe Way And East Of Castle Farm Road, known locally as ‘The Batch’.

We are pleased that this decision clearly reflects community feeling, with reference made to over 1,500 objections registered against this proposal. We thank everyone who took the time to support the campaign. Collectively your voices have made a difference.

While this particular process has drawn to a conclusion, we remain aware that the applicants have various options, including appeal. We also remain concerned about the inclusion of this land, and other Green Belt land in the immediate surrounding area, within South Gloucestershire Council’s emerging local plan. We consider this refusal a clear demonstration that "The Batch" and surrounding Green Belt is non-viable for development, for the reasons set out within this report. We will continue to update the local community, and call for support where required as this progresses.

Once again, a huge thank you to all who have participated in this campaign. Today’s refusal is a testament to our unwavering community spirit.’
